Background/Contextual Analysis
it is my pleasure to share with you all, that finally KP Food Directorate is planning to adopt daily price list (DPL) as an official app for issuance of food prices on daily basis. Initially this app will convey prices of vegetables, fruits and poultry on daily basis. other items will be added soon.
Digital Pakistan is a long term program envisioned to develop a digitally empowered society in Pakistan. In today’s technological world, access to e-services has become the fundamental right of citizens. In fact it is the gateway for economic development in a country where every citizen having easy access to Public and Private Services are empowered to get maximum benefit and actively play their role as responsible citizen.
Problem Analysis:
In Pakistan, the food department issue food price list on daily basis in hard copy mostly, spending millions on printing at the cost of affecting environment (deforestation, climate change). Despite of these efforts, the food mafias sell these items on higher rates.They actually overrule govt; price list, hide them in most cases or did not follow them. The govt; has established monitoring/complaint cells but due to limited resources they have limited access in the field. In some cases, the govt; officials are also part of this corruption, supporting mafias for their personal interests.
This situation is depriving citizens of their basic right to buy food items on govt controlled rates, a balance diet is hard to buy, contribute to corruption (higher corruption ranking in the world). The poor and other most vulnerable groups (women, widows, elders, children and persons with disabilities) suffer the most who have limited communication means and very low income. The overall impact is people living standards are deteriorated.
One of the core problem is physical inaccessibility of people to govt; price list. the limited means of communication & information (hard copy of price list) cannot reach to the masses. 2nd, The hard copy can easily be changed and hide by the concerned.
Daily price list, mobile app has been developed by the Digi Pakistan, (a private software company) can overcome above problems and improve living standards of citizens in Pakistan. This app will empower the vulnerable groups by delivering govt; daily price list through mobile app right into their hands. In this way, they can buy food items on government controlled rates. They can also launch complaint to the authorities if they come up with any deviation in prices. This will also improve govt; monitoring system as citizens will actively participate and help them to maintain the system.
it is envisioned that this app will help in reducing corruption in the food market, promote transparency and accountability. The app has been designed to bridge the gaps among govt; ,citizens and private traders through provision of timely information.
Daily Price List (DPL) an Android app will empower citizens, the poor and voiceless people to buy food items on Govt; controlled rates and raised their voices in case of discrepancy.
In near future, this app will contribute in promoting echo friendly environment by reducing the use of paper, as on daily basis hundreds and thousands of papers are used in printing of daily prices lists.
The subject app being inline with SDGs 2030 will contribute to good governance, reduce poverty, climate friendly system and empower vulnerable groups.
the objectives of this app are as under:

>. Controlling food prices which will help the poorer's and every citizen to buy food at reasonable prices. They must develop a robust system to monitor.
>. promote e-participation by involving citizens in the govt' structure.
>. the subject campaign is contributing to corporate social responsibility, which every business has to fulfill.
